Black Meteors oust Mozambique in U23 AFCON qualifiers

Ghana are through the next stage of the TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Mozambique 4-1 on aggregate in a two legged affair.

The first leg held at Estadio du Zimpeto in Maputo ended 2-1 in favor of the West Africans.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko made only one change to his squad that played in the first leg.

Suraj Seidu made a way for Abdul Razak Yusuf in Ghana’s only change from the starting.

The Black Meteors overpowered Mozambique early, dominated and snatched a lead through the first half late minutes strike from Dreams FC’s Symba Sylvester and Barnieh made it 2-0 early in the second half with a coolly-taken penalty.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh had scored a brace in the first leg to give Ghana a 2-1 lead, then got the final goal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from the spot today.

As the game progresses, the two goals seemed to be okay for the Ghanaians.

However that was not to be as the visitors recovered and begun to press. They finally settled on on long balls to fight for consolation but their 88th minute goal was ruled out as the score line remained 2-0.

The Ghana’s U23 side are fancied to book ticket for the next edition of the tournament in Morocco.

They will next face Congo who defeated Algeria in the final round for a place at next year’s U-23.
