Black Stars defender Stephan Ambrosius to miss the World Cup

Ghanaian defender, Stephan Ambrosius will miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup after picking up an injury over the weekend.

He picked up the the injury during their game against Holstein Kiel in the German Bundesliga 2 on Saturday.

Ambrosius was part of the 55-man provisional list that was announced last week by Black Stars coach, Otto Addo.

Despite playing the entire 90 minutes for Karlsruher SC in their 4-1 defeat, it was later confirmed that the Ghanaian defender is unable to get back to his fitness before the tournament.

Ambrosius was one of the few players that had officially switched allegiances to represent the Ghanaian senior national team internationally.

He has featured in one game for the German U-21 side in 2020 and he is yet to kick a ball with the Black Stars.

The World Cup will kick off after thirteen days in Qatar. Ghana will open the tournament on November 24 against Portugal at the Stadium 974.
