“There are ten African nations that can compete and win the World Cup” – CAF President

President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe has hailed the continent’s output at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Morocco produced the best results, among the five participating nations [ Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, Ghana], reaching the country and Africa’s first ever fourth place finish.

At a press conference in Johannesburg to assess Africa’s World Cup participation in Qatar, Patrice Motsepe had this to say.

“If you look at the talent on the African continent, in my mind there is approximately ten nations in Africa now that can compete at the highest level in the world and win,” Patrice Motsepe said.

“It may be 15 but I have to say we have to encourage every single one of the 54 nations in in Africa.

“If Croatia can make it with 3.5 million people, the beauty of the people of this continent and what we can achieve together when we work together, when we unite and of course football for us is at the heart of it.” The business magnate added.

Senegal qualified for the knock out stage of the tournament with Ghana, Cameroon and Tunisia all failing to reach the last 16.

The continent’s representatives all paraded home based coaches at this year’s global football showpiece with Atlas Lions manager, Walid Regragui topping the performance chart.
