Senegal dispatch host nation Algeria to win first CHAN title

Senegal shocked the continent again to win the CHAN 2022 tournament for the first time after beating Algeria 5-4 on penalties.

Senegal dispatched Algeria on penalties in Saturday’s African Nations Championship final to bring to a thrilling conclusion the 7th edition of the biennial continental competition as the Teranga Lions clinched their first-ever title.

Just one year after their senior team edged past Egypt to win the AFCON, the local team have also secured the African Nations Championship on penalties following a scoreless draw. The Nelson Mandela stadium witnessed a gripping clash between these sides that went down to the wire.

The game was more tense than turgid, just like in the last year’s AFCON, and nothing could split them after 90 minutes and extra time finished goalless again.

In the shoot-out, the Senegalese side were helped by Algeria player, Kendouci after hitting the crossbar.

It is a massive win and history for Senegal who fought to win the title just one year after winning the AFCON.
